The Gifts of Past, Present & Future

"... Working on this project feels to me like looking through time – and, as is so often the case, allows me to see parts of my own life and experience that I might not explore without its unique inspiration.

As the holiday season comes to a close, I often do a bit of hibernating, taking some time to relish and relive the experiences, the lessons, the beauty. I review the year both personally and professionally, reflecting on what I learned and setting goals for the future. Mostly it’s just a time of peaceful being, and giving myself the space to appreciate the life I feel so lucky to live.

One of my recent projects embodies this kind of honoring – of the past, present, and future – and feels very much to me like a meditation on how life continues to move around and through us, always onward.

My client came to me with her grandmother’s ornate antique ring, which was set with four center diamonds and a spray of smaller stones. She also wanted to use her mother’s wedding band, which held two diamonds.

We worked together to develop a design that would reflect her architectural tastes, repurposing her heirloom diamonds to create both linear parallel lines and a bezel-set spray almost like musical notes or celestial constellations. Holding the stones in place is a contrasting palette of white and yellow gold, shining a new light onto the diamonds and the women whose lives have been touched by them.

As I take time to review my own life and hopes for the new year upon us, I send you warmest wishes for a fabulous 2023!

xoxo
