Ways of Seeing
This week I have noticed the trees coming back. Spring is on its way. Soon the time will change an hour forward and the days will get longer. These once-barren branches, stripped to their bones for Winter, are already sprouting tiny leaves, the buds of green fruit, and the promise of an explosion of color in the cherry blossoms.
Power Through Self-Care
We all know the importance of self-care, but do we truly believe in it? To believe something is to be transformed by it.
Unexpectedly Inspired
Never one to be too fond of purple (more on that below), I have found myself seeing this color in a new light. It has captured my attention when taking walks about the city. It demanded my attention when visiting Monet’s Water Lilies in Paris last year. It has captivated me when watching the colors change on clouded wintery sunsets. Purple began to whisper to me that we are on the verge of a brand new relationship.
Happy New Year
Change is constant, never sitting still. Its companion time waits for no one. The days and years rush by bringing things we have no control of or over. But even in the face of all this, we can choose to hold our own.
Precious Objects
Her observation inspired me in many ways – most poignantly how to discover possibility in unlikely places. One might think that this tree had done its job and is now done. But if I look a little closer, I see something greater...a legacy of possibility. Its seeds are possible beginnings, more trees, another thing of beauty. Fascinated by the pod’s spiky and otherworldly surface, of course I took some home and went to work.
The Power of Collaboration
Collaboration with my clients becomes a shared vision. Input and inspiration, as well as a connection with the journey result in a feeling of joy as we realize that neither of us is alone in making this vision come alive.
The Power of Possibility
A while back I shared about this cross I created for my friend and client, Nancy. She had me engrave it with the word, ‘Possibility.’
Fruits of Labor
I’m lucky that my work is also my passion. Communicating and connecting with others throughout my creative process is a gift that never ceases to keep giving.
The CED Process
Repurposing is often an emotional and nostalgic process, so as with all of my projects, we start by establishing connection – between me and the client, the client and their materials, the intention and the new piece.
How to Accessorize for Summer Nights Out
I LOVE summer nights in L.A. There’s always so much to do and the weather is usually quite accommodating. I love the process of getting ready – deciding what to wear and how to style it. I don’t wear a lot of patterns, but I love styles with different textures and unique cuts.
Father’s Day 2019 | Staying Playful
My father was a toolmaker. Trained in Germany when CAD, computer-aided design, was in the distant future, he made giant aluminum molds that were tetrised together, fitting so tightly another tool was needed to pull them apart. So you can imagine his precision and eye for detail. Thank you, Dad, for passing these traits along to me!
Spring Cleaning & Forgotten Baubles
It’s almost summer but better late than never on my spring cleaning this year. Last month, I went through my mother’s jewelry box and it made me realize I needed to go through my own.
My Mother’s Jewelry Box
My mother is a huge jewelry fan and lover of beautiful things. When I was a child, I would try on her jewelry and makeup to pretend I was grown up enough to wear these treasures.
Inspiring Awe and Wonder
At the end of our last message, The Rainbow Connection, I posed a question: “What makes you stop in wonder and awe? I’d love to hear how you take time to appreciate those fleeting moments that mark our lives with magic.” I wanted to share them with you…
The Rainbow Connection
What is it about a rainbow that stops us dead in our tracks? Is it the sheer wonder of seeing something so ephemeral? Is it the very scientific collision of light and dark and atmosphere that produces something so magical?
Dwelling with Intention
For the last few years, I have been cultivating more intention in all aspects of my life, including my work. I’ve always believed deeply in the power of adornment and the meaning we can create with precious possessions, but not that long ago, I started to open up to other ways of helping people create meaning in their lives.
Challenge: Cultivating Playful Creativity
I started experimenting with practices that are out of the ordinary for me to help refresh and cultivate my creativity. And then I thought, wouldn’t it be fantastic if you all joined me?
Playful Creativity
Do you ever feel like there are too many choices? Our vision is to make space for rest, for silence, being present, for the unexpected, and for replenishing imagination to encourage more playful creativity.
