Enter the Dragon

“. . . no dream is too big or outside of the realm of 'reality' to pursue.”

Dragon Brooch Pendant

For centuries, and well before the GOT craze, dragons have been the totems for medieval myth. Often taking a terrifying role in ancient folklore, these mythical creatures still capture the imagination of fantasy-lovers everywhere today.

Lately I’ve been so thrilled by a return to surrealism and fantasy in jewelry, especially in the bold choices so many men are making on the red carpet. Harry Styles gleefully brought pearls into vogue and just about everyone followed. Timothée Chalamet wowed with his Vivienne Westwood pave crusted bone choker. A$AP Rocky was fierce in his Boucheron cat studs and ring at this year’s Met Gala.

From diamond brooches and tie pins and rings, to cuffs and earrings and belts, I’m excited to see men celebrating their love of jewelry.

Recently an avid fantasy reader and lover of dragons came to me wanting to create something sculptural he could wear with his favorite mythical creature. He brought an image of a dragon he liked to me for inspiration and we talked about how to create a brooch or a pendant that would make an audacious statement.

I took the reference photo to my team who used modern magic to extrapolate the 2D image into a 3D rendering. It was big and bold and, at 3 inches tall, gave me pause, but my client and I both agreed that in order to get the desired detail and impact, we had to just go for it.

Using oxidized sterling silver to accentuate the carved details of this beautiful beast, we set its eyes in glowing green tsavorite. And I even gave the dragon its own bling with a set of matching yellow gold pave cuffs set with blood red rubies.

My client is thrilled with his personal power talisman, and is proof that no dream is too big or outside of the realm of “reality” to pursue.

And that’s the beauty of custom jewelry – anything is possible!

So don’t be afraid to take risks when it comes to your adornment. Sometimes the magic is in the boldness of your choice.

You never know how your unapologetic style might give someone else the confidence and permission to let their own unique fashion perspective out to play. So rock it! And come see me when you’re ready to make your own talisman.

xoxo
