When Design Disciplines Meet
I love the opportunity to work with fellow designers from different disciplines. There is something wonderful about bringing different ways of seeing into the jewelry-making process.
Recently, I had the honor of creating an engagement ring as a private commission for a landscape architect. Our conversation began with images that had caught her eye, along with some of my previous work. She was drawn to asymmetry, unexpected textures, and the idea of a surprise—something that didn’t necessarily make the diamond the main event.
We also decided to give new life to her grandmother’s heirloom diamonds, bringing something deeply personal into a completely new design.
I sketched several concepts, exploring these ideas through form, texture, and proportion. In the end, it was the design with the strongest sculptural quality that resonated with her most.
I love when a piece evolves this way—through collaboration, conversation, and the unexpected connections between different creative disciplines. The result is a ring that is not only a symbol of love, but uniquely hers.
